Counselling provides emotional and mental health support to individuals who are experiencing difficult and challenging times such as grief and bereavement, stressful times, chronic illnesses, life transitions, life support etc...
About me and my practice
I work with adult clients and their family members affected by life changing events, stress, chronic illnesses (such as cancer), grief and bereavement. In our sessions, we'll explore emotions, reactions and coping with treatment, diagnosis and life-changing events. We'll delve into family and personal issues, dealing with practical issues and coping with chronic illnesses. I facilitate and bring an awareness to the client of their unmet needs and to establish how to integrate all the aspects of the clients life to live more effectively and in harmony.
I practice Integrative Humanistic Therapy. Integrative counselling combines different modules that are built on different theoretical approaches (psychodynamic, behavioural, humanistic) with the belief that not one modality or therapeutic way is adequate to help clients assist with change. As no client is the same, no one way of working will apply too.
Experience
For the past 2 years i have been working with adults and their families struggling emotionally due to cancer diagnosis. Counselling may help cancer patients (and their family members)with easing anxieties and depressive symptoms, understanding emotions and feelings around the illness, understanding with uncertainties what diagnosis of cancer brings, distress about change and loss and coming to terms with possible mortality.
my other experience is around providing emotional support to people with mental health difficulties (anxiety and depression, low self esteem, loneliness and feeling lonely, managing stress and managing anger).
